R. E. Butler ("I," "me," or "my") operates rebutlerauthor.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit the site, why it's collected, and what choices you have.

 

Who I am:  I'm R. E. Butler, an independent romance author. This is a personal author website. I'm not a corporation, and I don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

What I collect and why:  

Newsletter signups. If you sign up for my newsletter, I collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. This is used only to send you news about new releases, sales, freebies, and occasional giveaways. My general newsletter is managed through Mailchimp; my King Lake Gazette newsletter is managed through MailerLite. Both are third-party services with their own privacy policies:

Email. If you email me directly, I receive your email address and whatever you write. I use it to reply to you and nothing else. I won't add you to my newsletter because you emailed me.

Site analytics and cookies. This site is hosted on Wix, which automatically collects basic visitor data such as pages viewed, approximate location, browser type, device type, and referring website. This is aggregate traffic information — it doesn't identify you personally. Wix's privacy policy is at https://www.wix.com/about/privacy. Wix also uses essential cookies to keep the site functioning and may use analytics cookies. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site will still work.

Links to other sites. This site links out to retailers (Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and others), to BookFunnel for free books and downloads, and to social media. Once you click through, you're on their site under their privacy policy, not mine. I have no control over what they collect.

 

What I don't do: 

• I don't sell, rent, or share your email address or personal information with third parties for their marketing.

• I don't run a comments section, so I don't collect comment data.

• I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you're under 16, please don't sign up for my newsletter. If you believe a child has given me information, contact me and I'll delete it.

 

How long I keep your information: 

Newsletter subscribers stay on my list until you unsubscribe. Every email I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom — one click and you're off, permanently. Emails you send me are kept only as long as needed to handle your question.

 

Your rights: 

Wherever you live, you can ask me to:

• tell you what information I have about you,

• correct anything that's wrong,

• delete your information entirely.

 

If you're in the EU or UK, these rights are protected under GDPR. If you're in California, you have similar rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what's collected and to request deletion. I don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of on that front.

Security

I take reasonable steps to protect the information I hold, and I rely on Wix, Mailchimp, and MailerLite to maintain security on their platforms. That said, no method of transmitting data over the internet is completely secure, and I can't guarantee absolute security.

 

Changes to this policy

If I update this policy, I'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in a newsletter.
